The children were thrilled as we carefully filled the bottle with a green-dyed water-alcohol mixture and inserted the straw. Their eyes widened with curiosity as we placed the bottle in a bowl of hot water. As the liquid inside began to rise, the kids watched in awe as it reached the top of the straw and even started oozing out!

Next, we placed our homemade thermometer outside on the veranda to see how the sun would affect it. When we checked back later, the students were excited to discover that the water had overflowed due to the sun’s warmth. But as the sky grew cloudy, we observed something even more interesting—the water level in the straw had gone down. This was a clear sign of how the sun’s heat affects the temperature.

This hands-on experiment was a fun and engaging way for our young scientists to learn about the power of the sun and how it influences our environment. Thursday Science was a hit, sparking curiosity and excitement about the natural world around us!
