This month in science, we’re learning all about insects, and this week’s focus was on caterpillars! To bring these little creatures to life, we did a fun and creative experiment that combined art and science.

Each child started with a piece of tissue paper, carefully coloring it with markers in bright, beautiful patterns. Once their designs were ready, they rolled up the tissue paper tightly—just like a tiny caterpillar waiting to grow. Then came the exciting part: spraying the paper with water!

As the water soaked in, the tissue paper expanded and wiggled just like a real caterpillar crawling along! The children watched in amazement as their creations slowly unraveled. Once dry, the colors spread out beautifully, and the hardened tissue paper made them look even more lifelike.

This hands-on experiment helped us explore absorption, color blending, and how insects transform over time. The kids had so much fun making their caterpillars, and we can’t wait to learn more about insects in the coming weeks!
